Can I sell adult content on Stripe, Shopify Payments or PayPal?
The clearest answer on this page. Stripe prohibits adult content outright, and the prohibition covers text and imagery as well as video. PayPal prohibits "certain sexually oriented materials or services". No reading of either policy gets a mainstream processor to yes.

Named and prohibited, and look at the part in brackets: literature and imagery are included. Written erotica and illustration fall under this clause just as squarely as video, which surprises a lot of merchants who assumed it was about film.

Shopify Payments

Named on Shopify's own list, on top of Stripe's and PayPal's prohibitions. There's no way to set up Shopify Payments in the United States that will process adult content.

What usually happens
Accounts get closed fast and the funds are held. The card networks also run dedicated adult-content programmes with their own registration requirements, so an undeclared adult merchant has broken the processor's terms and is outside a network programme they were required to join. That combination is what leads to the long MATCH listings.
What works instead
Adult content has had a working specialist acquiring market for a long time, with network programme registration built into onboarding. That's the only route. Trying it on a mainstream processor is the surest way to end up with a five-year listing.
