Can I sell adult content on Stripe, Shopify Payments or PayPal?
The least ambiguous category here. Stripe prohibits it outright and the prohibition explicitly extends to text and imagery, not just video. PayPal restricts sexually oriented material. There is no reading of either policy that gets a mainstream processor to yes.
Also searched as: porn, 18+, cam, OnlyFans-style, adult subscription.
Stripe
ProhibitedNamed on the list and refused. Applying anyway is how merchants end up on MATCH.
“Pornography and other mature audience content (including literature, imagery, and other media)”
Named and prohibited, and the parenthesis matters: literature and imagery are inside it. Written erotica and illustration are covered by this clause as squarely as video is, which surprises a lot of merchants who assumed the rule was about film.

PayPal
ProhibitedNamed on the list and refused. Applying anyway is how merchants end up on MATCH.
“certain sexually oriented materials or services”
Named in the prohibited activities. "Certain" leaves PayPal room to draw the line where it likes, and in practice it draws it early.

Shopify Payments
ProhibitedNamed on the list and refused. Applying anyway is how merchants end up on MATCH.
No policy of its own
Inherits both prohibitions. There is no configuration of Shopify Payments in the United States that processes this category.

What actually happens
Accounts are closed quickly and funds are held, and because the card networks operate dedicated adult-content programmes with their own registration requirements, an undeclared adult merchant is not merely in breach of a processor's terms but outside a network programme they were required to be inside. That combination is what produces the long MATCH listings.
What works instead
This category has a functioning specialist acquiring market and has had one for a long time, with network programme registration built into the onboarding. That is the only route. Attempting it on a mainstream processor is the single most reliable way to acquire a five-year listing.

This page is about adult content as a category. Approval turns on your specific catalogue, your claims and your paperwork, and we will tell you where you stand whether or not it leads to work for us.
Both are free and neither is a sales call. The check asks for your web address and nothing else; the call is thirty minutes and ends with an answer whether or not it leads to work for us. Ready to start instead? Tell us what you sell.
