Can I sell nootropics on Stripe, Shopify Payments or PayPal?

The most survivable category on this list, and the one where merchants most often lose an account they could have kept. Nootropics are unnamed everywhere, and a catalogue of caffeine, L-theanine and B-vitamins is genuinely low risk. Add one unapproved-drug compound and the whole account inherits that compound's risk profile.

Also searched as: racetams, phenibut, smart drugs, cognitive enhancers.

Stripe

Not named

Absent from the policy entirely. This is not permission: it hands the decision to an underwriter, usually after you have money on the platform.

Does not name this category. Applied through
Pseudo-pharmaceuticals or nutraceuticals that are not safe or make harmful claims

Not named, and for a conservative catalogue this clause genuinely does not bite. Both halves are about the product and the claims, so a mainstream nootropics store that avoids drug compounds and avoids medical language is usually fine on Stripe.

PayPal

Not named

Absent from the policy entirely. This is not permission: it hands the decision to an underwriter, usually after you have money on the platform.

Does not name this category. Applied through
narcotics, steroids, certain controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety

Not named. The exposure is compound-specific rather than category-wide: the clause is reaching for phenibut and the racetams, not for a caffeine stack.

Shopify Payments

Absent from the policy entirely. This is not permission: it hands the decision to an underwriter, usually after you have money on the platform.

No policy of its own

No independent list. Judged by Stripe and PayPal.

What actually happens

One product takes down the store. A reviewer opening the catalogue does not assess ninety compliant SKUs and ten questionable ones proportionally, they find the questionable ones and close the account. Merchants are routinely surprised because the offending product was a low-volume line they had half forgotten.

What works instead

Audit the catalogue against the compounds that carry unapproved-drug status and decide deliberately whether each one earns its place. This is the one category on the list where the right answer is often to keep the mainstream processor and change the catalogue, rather than keep the catalogue and change the processor.

Want the version that accounts for your actual store?

This page is about nootropics as a category. Approval turns on your specific catalogue, your claims and your paperwork, and we will tell you where you stand whether or not it leads to work for us.

Both are free and neither is a sales call. The check asks for your web address and nothing else; the call is thirty minutes and ends with an answer whether or not it leads to work for us. Ready to start instead? Tell us what you sell.
