Can I sell credit repair services on Stripe, Shopify Payments or PayPal?

Prohibited by Stripe by name, including credit monitoring and counselling, and covered by PayPal's financial services clause. A service business with no product risk at all is treated more severely here than several of the ingestible categories above, because the risk being priced is the dispute rate and the regulatory attention, not the safety of anything.

Also searched as: credit monitoring, credit counseling, credit restoration.

Stripe

Prohibited

Named on the list and refused. Applying anyway is how merchants end up on MATCH.

Names this category
Credit monitoring, credit repair, and counseling services

Named on the prohibited list, and drawn widely enough to include monitoring and counselling. Rebranding a credit repair business as credit education or credit coaching does not move it outside this clause, because the clause already covers counselling.

PayPal

Prohibited

Names this category
involve certain credit repair, debt settlement services, credit transactions or insurance activities

Named in the prohibited activities. "Certain" again, but credit repair is the first thing listed and this is not a clause anyone has talked their way out of.

Shopify Payments

No policy of its own

Inherits both prohibitions.

What actually happens

Credit repair merchants are usually terminated on the strength of the website alone, often within days, because the category is identifiable from a homepage in a way that a supplement catalogue is not. Recurring monthly billing against a promised outcome also produces a dispute rate that gets attention on its own.

What works instead

A specialist acquirer, and a compliance posture built for CROA: clear written contracts, the cancellation right stated, and no billing in advance of services performed. That last point is both a legal requirement and the single biggest driver of the disputes that make this category expensive to underwrite.

Want the version that accounts for your actual store?

This page is about credit repair services as a category. Approval turns on your specific catalogue, your claims and your paperwork, and we will tell you where you stand whether or not it leads to work for us.

Both are free and neither is a sales call. The check asks for your web address and nothing else; the call is thirty minutes and ends with an answer whether or not it leads to work for us. Ready to start instead? Tell us what you sell.
