Can I sell research chemicals on Stripe, Shopify Payments or PayPal?
This is the only category here where Stripe's prohibition hangs on a single word, and that word isn't "research". Stripe prohibits incorrectly labelled research chemicals. A real laboratory supplier with accurate labels is in a very different position from a consumer store using the term as cover.

Named on the prohibited list, and the qualifier decides it. Taken literally, it doesn't prohibit correctly labelled research chemicals. The way underwriters apply it, a consumer store selling ingestibles under a research label is exactly what the clause was written for.

PayPal
Not namedThe policy doesn't mention it at all. That isn't permission. It leaves the decision to an underwriter, usually after you already have money on the platform.

PayPal doesn't name research chemicals. This clause gets applied through its controlled-substances and consumer-safety wording, and the analogue question makes it an easy one for a reviewer to reach for.

Shopify's own list doesn't name research chemicals, so in the United States Stripe's prohibition decides it, qualifier and all.

What usually happens
These accounts usually get closed by a person on manual review rather than by a transaction pattern, and it's the site that prompts the review. You can tell from the homepage whether a supplier serves institutions or individuals, and that's where the decision gets made.
What works instead
If you do supply laboratories, show it everywhere: institutional purchase orders, accurate CAS labelling, no consumer dosing, no capsules. That's a real position and it can be underwritten. If you sell to individuals, the research label isn't protecting you, and a specialist acquirer will price you for what you are.
